Syrah wines (Shiraz wines) are made from a dark skinned red grape producing full bodied red wines.  Originating in southeastern France, Syrah wines are also known as Shiraz wines in many parts of the world.  Syrah Wines (Shiraz Wines) first became well known in wines from the French Hermitage region.  Served as a dry, red table wine, Syrah wines are often served alone, but may also be blended.  Popular blends for Syrah wines include Viognier, Grenache, and Mourvedre.  Less commonly, Syrah is used to produce fortified wines, rose, and sparkling red wines.  Syrah wines offer concentrated flavors and high tannins, and most Syrah wines (Shiraz wines) benefit from fifteen years or more of aging.
