Rose wines have long had a reputation for being overly sweet, but some of the best rose wines are off dry or dry and are best served chilled.  Rose wines often highlight fruit and berry flavors, and most rose wines (also called pink, blush, or Rosado) are made from red grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon or Sangiovese.  Brief contact with the skins of red grapes during the fermentation of rose wine is what produces the pink hue.  The flavors of rose wines tend toward strawberry, cherry, raspberry, citrus, and watermelon.  Popular rose wines include White Zinfandel, sparkling rose wines, and several rose versions of typically red wines like Syrah and Merlot.
