History
The Basque Country wine region is home to a unique people with their own language, culture, and blood lines. The Basque people claim to be aboriginal Europeans. The Basque Country wine region is an autonomous community responsible for the cultivation of much of Spain’s Rioja.

Table wine is known as Vino de mesa, regional wines are known as Vino de la tierra, wines of quality bear the classification of Denominacion de Origen and Denominacion de Origen Calificada.
Geography
The Basque Country wine region shares a border with France and lies close to the mountains. Thanks to the temperate climate, Basque Country wines flourish.
Regions
The Basque Country wine region is composed of three distinct areas: Araba, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa. The larger area, also known as Basque Country, which comprises the Basque Country wine region also includes the autonomous community of Navarre.

Basque Country wines are produced from Rioja and Txacoli.
